On a recent business trip I stayed in a business hotel directly connected to a high-rise where my meetings took place. The hotel was about as close to flawless as they get with huge, immaculate rooms, precisely tasteful furnishings, and an enclosed central atrium with tropical trees that were either plastic or perfectly maintained. The adjacent high rise was also flawlessly sterile with every aspect state-of-the-art and perfect. I was able to walk between my room and my meetings without going outside which wasn't a big deal since as far as the eye could see was the same flawlessly manicured, tech-corridor style architecture and landscaping. The connecting facilities had all the restaurants I could possibly need. It was like being on a cruise ship and a complete immersion into artificial perfection.
In that kind of world you can't imagine sickness or poverty or suffering. It doesn't seem possible that any life form, except clean, healthy and neatly dress humans, can live or have ever lived in anything except the omnipresent televisions. The sterility and the perfection are stunning and I imagine that there are many who spend most of their lives like this - or at least want to. I can appreciate it at some levels, but I'll take reality with all it's flaws.
