Today We're Irish

With my return from my week away and a delightful evening with friends with some enthusiastic Irish roots, tonight we celebrated a late Saint Patrick's day. Corned Beef, in the Boiled Vermont Dinner style along with most of the movie, The Secret of Roan Inish, made the extremely sparse Irish blood in me flare with excitement. I don't really know how much, if any, Irish I have in me, but esthetically I certainly enjoy the fictionalized Ireland of movies, books and cooking. I don't know if visiting Ireland would be disillusioning or satisfying. At this point it is merely an academic issue since we have not plans to visit. In the mean time, the fictional version is quite delightful.

LOVE that movie! i'm a quarter irish (mostly mexican, but ALL american!) and yes, the passion and love for the emerald isle is always stoked when i see that film.

i love how "industrious" the kids are when they clean up the houses on roan inish.

the music is the best. and for a long time (back in the 90's) i wanted to name my first born son "tadhg" (teague), like the cousin who was chopping up fish. LOL didn't happen, though. ;)

happy belated st. patrick's day!
